December the 3rd PRESS RELEASE
2003- the European Year for Disabled People
Nothing for us without us! This is the slogan under which in the year 2003, in the countries of the European Union and in the accessing countries actions that promote non-discrimination and the social inclusion of disabled people will take place.
Non-discrimination+positive action=social inclusion
Unfortunately, in Romania, this slogan is just a sum of words with little meaning. There are a lot of events that target us but do not include us. Decisions are made in our name, promoting the image of passive recipients of allowances and aid.
In the actions held with the occasion of December the 3rd, we have felt the lack of interest from the authorities for the active implication of disabled persons. We wish the initiative for collaboration to start also from the decisional level towards the society and not just the other way around.
We hope that by 2003, the disabled people will be more than the object of public policies and the subject of high-level talks. We hope to be seen in positive social roles! For this we count on the force represented by the mass-media!
